Help Save Dog Walking Recreation at Rancho!
In January 2011, Ranch Corral de Tierra became the newest addition to Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Rancho encompasses 4,000 acres of coastal scrub brush and forested areas spanning the local communities of Montara, Moss Beach, and El Granada. The lands that encompass Rancho have a 50-year+ history of dog walking, including off-leash dog walking . Under the proposed rule, Rancho would lose half of its historic dog-walking trails starting in 2017. One of the most popular loop trails in Montara from the 2nd street parking lot to Farallone View school would no longer allow dogs (and in the future will be closed to the public). Important community access points such as Alta Vista Road in Montara and the El Granada Boulevard access point to the Clipper Ridge trail would be closed to people walking with dogs. Out of 4,000 acres, the only available off-leash would be 3 acres at Flat Top in El Granada. People with more than three dogs, would not be allowed on any trails in Rancho.
